As all of us are aware, each Android phone connects to Google Play store to update various applications. Recently, I noted a spurt in network usage on my phone when I was on mobile data. When I used the network data monitoring application to find out usage, I was surprised to find that it was Google Play that was downloading multiple MBs of data.

Earlier, Google Play also used to show up as an update in the Play store. I believe this behaviour has been changed. It now wants to update as soon as you are connected to the Internet – irrespective of type of connection. As I update applications using the WiFi connection, this has come as a surprise for me.

So, if we are on roaming, we may be in for a surprise addition in the bill due to this behaviour.
