That is what the news item declaring that the Apple iPhone 5C will be available at $99 did.
Immediately, I thought of being able to buy a phone for the wife for Rs.10,000 in India (considering the dollar rate + some additions).
Then reality struck. The $99 price is only in the US and ONLY on a two-year contract.
Even in the US, if you wish to buy the iPhone 5c WITHOUT contract, the price is around $500. In India, the price will be around Rs.40,000.
Now, even in plastic, the phone is not meant to catch the market of mid-priced phones. It will still be top-end, which might be good for Apple in terms of profit margins, but will not sell many handsets in India.
