Most, if not all Indians know about the Republic Day parade held each year on January 26. Some of them like me try and catch the republic day parade – if not all, some part of it – on that day.
But few may look forward to the ‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony that is held in Vijay Chowk of New Delhi on Jan 29. While this ceremony marks the end of the Republic Day celebrations, it is a spectacle to watch.
In the ceremony, bands from various regiments of the armed forces play various tunes and march in formations. While I look forward to catch this ceremony, it is not possible to watch it due to office timing.
This year, I managed to catch the last fifteen minutes of the ceremony. Here are some pictures taken from the television set.
