One of the first software that I tried for backup was Microsoft SyncToy. Then I tried Toucan and Cobian Backup.

In each we need to create a backup job that syncs files from the source drive with files on the destination drive. And there-in lies the problem.

I take backup on a portable drive. When I connect the drive, the drive letter assigned by Windows is not guaranteed to be same each time I connect the drive. Due to this, for each backup, I had to edit the backup command, change the drive letter for the destination and then execute the backup – a time consuming activity.

While I liked Cobian Backup most, the problem of uncertain drive letters was an issue and I needed a simpler solution.
